WILDWOODS – Friday September 19, 2008, Crest Savings Bank held a commemorative ceremony to celebrate 100 Years of History of its Corporate Headquarters building. The ceremony was held on the day the bank celebrated its 89th Anniversary. A crowd of dignitaries and representatives from local businesses and civic organizations along with bank employees, management and directors gathered in front of the building to listen to President and CEO Jay M. Ford’s speech. Mr. Ford then introduced speakers which included Senator Jeff VanDrew, Assemblyman Matthew Milam, Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano, North Wildwood Mayor William Henfey, and Wildwood Commissioner William Davenport.

“We are so proud of our building and of its history” stated Jay M. Ford, Crest Savings Bank President and CEO. The classic revival style edifice was erected in 1908 to house the former Marine National Bank. In 1927 the original structure doubled its size by adding two windows to the south and creating a new central entrance. Today most of the bank’s 1927 features remain. Although the original teller’s cages of marble and bronze are gone, the imposing stone exterior along with three original vaults, stained glass windows, twostory banking hall and mezzanine level remain. The drive-in facilities, the first in Cape May County, were added to the rear of the building in the early 1950s and then incorporated into the two-story administrative wing built in 1972.

Management and the Board of Directors take great pride in being responsible for restoring this historical icon. “It is a wonderful feeling to know that we have helped to preserve part of our island’s precious heritage.”

The ceremony ended with the unveiling of four stone placards that will be inlaid in the sidewalk in front of the bank. The placards recognize the history of the building and Crest Savings Bank.

Cathryn Lederer who entered the school in the raffle has already made plans for how the surrey will be used. Crest Savings Bank’s Jay M. Ford commented “We know the school will put the surrey to good use and the students will enjoy it”.
